There is a trick to Rename the My Computer of any Computer. As in large organizations, it can be sometimes difficult for the Administrator to know whose Computer is whose. So this little trick will be usefull in Renaming My Computer to Computer Name of your choice, allowing you to easily see which computer you are Logged On to.
Here is the trick to Rename My Computer.
1) Open the Registry Editor (You have to use REGEDT32.EXE) by clicking Start >> Run >> regedt32 >> OK.
2) Expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
3) Rename the value named “LocalizedString” to “LocalizedString.orig”.
4) Create a new REG_EXPAND_SZ value named “LocalizedString”, and set the value to “%COMPUTERNAME%”.
( Here COMPUTERNAME in “%COMPUTERNAME%” can be replaced by any other name of your choice ).
5) Exit the registry editor, Right Click on your desktop and Click Refresh. The My Computer icon should now be Renamed to the name you specified.
